Death of Dundee Business man
Mr John Adamson 7 Glamis Place, Dundee head of William Adamson & Son (Wire and Sheet metal Fabrications) ltd died suddenly yesterday.
His firm expanded its activities greatly with the opening of a new factory at Arbroath Road two years ago.
He was 49, and although not enjoying good health for some time, had been at business in past week.
Mr Adamson was the third generation of the firm started by his grand father in 1870 in a shop at 49 Nethergate.
He remained there until the beginning of the last war, when Mr John Adamson removed to Seabraes Mill and later to Blinshall Street.
I n May 1949, the firm moved into a new 12,00 0 square feet ground level factory in Arbroath Road, east of the Eastern Cemetery.
The new riverside works was privately built and an important addition to Dundee’s industrial enterprises. Among the products of the new factory are all types of wire work, guards, enclosures for lifts, tennis courts zoos etc. and sheet metal manufacture such as steel cabinets, furniture and lockers, ships ventilation ducts etc.
He was a member of Dundee Rotary Club, the Bonnetmaker Incorporation and had been connected with the Corinthian Boating Club for many years.
