Davidson’s coffin, adorned in flowers at St Michael and all Angels Anglican Church, on Oxford Tce in Christchurch on Saturday.
Only a few close friends and family were allowed into the church because of the recent move to alert level 2 restrictions.
Son Leon Davidson said his father, who was adopted and brought up by Scottish parents, loved motorcycles, tattoos, politics and his Scottish and Maori heritage.
Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel said Davidson loved people and took great pride in seeing them succeed.
The service ended with a bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace, while Davidson’s casket was carried to the hearse.

Photograph of soldiers of the 78th (Highland) Regiment (Ross-shire Buffs), c. 1860.
Two pioneers of the 78th Regiment of Foot in full dress. The squad consisted of ten men, besides the sergeant, who were selected from soldiers proficient in various trades.
The main task of the pioneer was to lay out the soldiers' camp. When laying out the camp, pioneers would have to dig latrines, fix standpipes, remedy building defects and in general maintain the upkeep of the camp.

Carbon photograph of a private of the 78th (Highlanders) Regiment of Foot (Ross-shire Buffs) in Heavy Marching Order, 1860. This is what a foot soldier was expected to wear and carry when engaged in combat. He has an oilskin cover on his feathered bonnet, as worn in wet weather.
Although this is obviously a studio shot, the photographer has gone to some lengths to make the scene as vivid as possible, posing the soldier against a painted backdrop of an outdoor scene, kneeling and preparing to fire.
When the Indian Mutiny broke out in 1857, the 78th had been nearly at the end of its tour of Foreign service, so at the end of the campaign it was one of the first regiments to return home.

Circassia (III); The motor vessel Circassia, the third Anchor liner with that name, was launched at Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering, Glasgow, in June 1937. Her maiden voyage, in October of that year, was from Glasgow to Bombay, the route Circassia served for her entire commercial career.
During World War II, she was converted into an armed merchant cruiser in 1940, then into a troopship in 1942, and finally into an infantry landing ship in 1943. Circassia returned to Anchor's Bombay service in August 1947, and on 13 January 1966 made Anchor's last passenger sailing on that route. She was broken up later that year. Circassia was the sister of Cilicia and Caledonia (V). Sources: Haws' Merchant Fleets; Kludas' Great Passenger Ships of the World. via http://www.greatships.net/ [Feb 2011]

The gravestone of Robert Paterson ('Old Mortality') This gravestone for Robert Paterson is in Caerlaverock Parish Churchyard at Bankend. Paterson spent many years maintaining inscriptions and erecting memorials to the Covenanting martyrs. He met Sir Walter Scott who came up with the name ‘old Mortality’ that was used in his novel of the same name. The stone was erected by Scott’s publishers in 1869. The stone has the following inscription:-
ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF ROBERT PATERSON, THE OLD MORTALITY OF SIR WALTER SCOTT, WHO WAS BURIED HERE FEBRUARY 1801.
WHY SEEKS HE WITH UNWEARIED TOIL
THROUGH DEATH’S DIM WALKS TO URGE HIS WAY,
RECLAIM HIS LONG-ASSERTED SPOIL,
AND LEAD OBLIVION INTO DAY.
