    MISS MATILDA N. GUTHRIE, who has been appointed matron of Gowrie House in succession to Miss Whyte, is a native of Dundee. Her father was the late Mr Charles Guthrie, who for many years carried on a grocery business in Lochee Road.
    Miss Guthrie, who has been assistant matron at Bangour Mental Hospital, Broxburn, West Lothian, does not take up her duties until February.
    The new matron comes to her new post with the goodwill of all those with whom she has come in contact in her work so far.
    A testimonial from a former chief says of her that her skill and resource, her kindliness and tact, never fail. Efficient and skilful, helpful and self-sacrificing is the splendid character earned by Miss Guthrie.3
