  • Biography*: He John Lindsay Adamson, born 1809, son of Robert A., sawyer, Anstruther; educated at Univ of St Andrews; tutor to the family of James Thomson, DD, min of Eccles, 1828-32; app. schoolmaster of Kilmany Aug 18352; Licen. by Presb. of Cupar 27 March 1832; ord. to Thornton 16 Aug 1838; pres. by the Presb. jure devoluto 17 Jan., trans. and adm. [to Dundee St David's, ed] 1st Feb. 1844; died 27th March 1852. He was friend and encourager of Alexander Bethune, author of Tales and Sketches of the Scottish Peasantry, who was one of his pupils at a night school at Lochend near the Loch of Lindores. He marr. Ann (died 31st Aug. 1882), daugh. of William Lees, wright, Pitenweem, and had issue - Alice, born 25th Nov. 1833; John Lindsay, min. of Wallacetown, born 7th Aug. 1835; Isabella Lindsay, born 24th April 1837, died 2nd April 1884; William Lindsay, born 23rd May 1839; Thomas, Born 8th Feb. 1841, died 1842; Margaret, born 2nd June 1842; Hunter Lindsay, born 2nd Feb. 1846, died 24th July 1884.
