First service 6 Oct 1874; signed up for 10 years in 1876, height 5ft 1 1/2 in, hair light brown, eyes blue, complexion fresh, trade factory boy. Served with various ships over the period, ending up as signaller, all with very good character until last voyage when stated as 'fair only'. Purchased himself discharge at £12 Dec 1882 by which time he was 5ft 5in and with various tattoos on both arms.12
