  • Marriage*: She married John McELROY builder & railway contractor say 1828; In 1841 he was still married and his wife (?) appears as Mary Ann, whereas his son James Angelo McElroy (by his first marriage) who died 7 June 1907 records the mother as Mary Jane Elder. He [James who died 1907] married 1858 and begins to appear in the census after that

    At 94 King Street, Glasgow, on the 13th inst., by the Rev. A. S. Paterson. D.D., of Eglington Free Church, Mr James M'Elroy, engineer, to Agnes, eldest daughter of Mr Archibald Breckenridge.
