There are discrepancies/anomolies with this person's wife's and mother's names which raise a query, but I believe this to be John Dickson b about 1843, Ireland, who in other records lists his parents as Francis Dickson and Agnes Murray and his wife named Jane McDonald, who is also the mother of his children.
But this record states married to Jane Connolly, usual residence 24 Ryehill Lane, aged 39 years, parents Francis Dickson carpet weaver (dec) and Elira Menary (dec) with cause of death fractured skull about 12 hours, the informant is Jane Dickson widow her mark 24 Ryhill Lane.
The RCErepeatas much of the above but states age about 38 years, and "injuries received by falling down a stair while intoxicated" as written on the medical report "obtained by Procurator Fsical."3
  • Newspaper Article*: He was mentioned in a newspaper article SAD DEATH OF A WEAVER.-A man named John Dickson, a carpet weaver, and residing in Ryehill Lane, died in the Royal Infirmary on Sunday afternoon under some what peculiar circumstances. Dickson was found lying insensible on a stair in Larch Street about four o'clock on Sunday morning by the police, who had him removed to the Western Police Office, where he was speedily attended by Dr Pirie. As the man did not regain consciousness he was repeatedly, during the early part of the day, visited by Dr Pirie, and as his condition seemed to get worse, he was ultimately remove to the infirmary about midday. Dickson, however, did not long survive his removal, as he expired about four o'clock in the afternoon. The cause of death has not yet been exactly determined. The deceased had some cuts and bruises about his heal, which, it is supposed, had been sustained by falling down the stairs, but it is not thought that these were sufficient to account for his death. He had apparently been drinking rather hearily, and it is considered that the fatal result is rather due to exposure and an overdose of drink. It is not known how Dickson came to be in the place where he was found. He was thirty-eight years of age, and leaves a widow and three of a family. on 26 April 1881 at Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland, .4
