History
The Douglas family of Glenbervie was descended from Sir William Douglas (d 1715),
the 2nd son of the 5th Earl of Angus who acquired the lands at Glenbervie, Mearns,
Kincardineshire, through his wife Elizabeth. His descendent, Sir William Douglas (d
1653), was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1625. In 1812, with the death of Sir
Alexander Douglas, the Baronetcy became dormant. The name and arms of Douglas
passed, through the female line, to Sir Kenneth Mackenzie (d 1833), afterwards
Douglas, in 1831 who was created a Baronet in the same year.
