Yes I would like to exchange information on the Taits
I am descended from Jean Tait 1764-1836. She married William Guthrie 1760-1857. They are my 4th gr grandparents.
One of their daughters, Margaret Guthrie, married George Alexander
One of their sons, Thomas Alexander married Isabel McLean in New Zealand 1863.
One of their daughters, Ann McQueen Alexander married William Kidd in N.Z.
One of their daughters ,Margaret Guthrie Kidd married Edward(Bert) Gear in N.Z. (my Grandparents)
Their eldest daughter, Maud Gear was my mother who married Robert McGhie. I am their only child
I married Fred in N.Z. and had 3 chn. Ann, Wendy and Martin. We came to Canada in 1969. Martin
died in 1984 from cancer. We have a 16yr old granddaughter and 2 grandsons aged 5 and 8.

I know this is mainly about the Alexanders but I have all the Tait children of William Tait and Margaret Helen Croyle
You are the first contact I have had from any of the other Tait chn.

Because Jean Tait married William Guthrie and he lived past 1855 when it became law in Scotland to register all B D M’s
I have his death record and on it gives his parents as William Guthrie and Elspeth Nicol.

Isabel McLean, William Kidd and Robert McGhie were all born in Scotland

Would very much like to hear more from you.

    Regards Cathreen

Notes

  • Reference LGB: Reference: 4198.3
  • Note for Web*: William Guthrie ag lab William was a workman at Mains of Errol.

At the time of the 1841 census, he was living in the parish of Kinfauns. Living with him were his daughter Helen, and her three children, Robert, Alexander, and Jean. At the time of the 1851 census, these same people were living together at Garry Cottage, Barnhill, Kinnoull Parish, Perthshire.

William was a terrific age when he died: 97. What he was doing on Whytock's land is anyone's guess; if he was still working, he must have been a very strong man..3
