  • He was the son of William Whitton mill wright and Betty Thornton.
  • Marriage*: Richard Whitton lapper of flax yarn married Janet Blyth, daughter of George Blyth and Magdalene Fyffe, on Friday, 12 January 1844 at Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland, ; Charles birth registration 1863 Alyth has 12 Jan 1846 [Sep 2010] but http://www.robertwhitton.eu has 15 Jun 1844 Dundee [Sep 2010]. But William's baptism in February 1844 has 'Richard Whitton baker and Janet Blyth his wife', therefore it seems likely that day and month from Charles birth reg is probably correct, but 20 years since the event, the year has been recalled (or written) in error.1,4
