  • (Groom) Marriage*: He married Jean/Jane Doig yarn winder, daughter of Frederick Thom and Ann Doig, on 15 February 1878 at Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, ; James Ferrier and Jane Thom were married on the 15th February 1878 at 13 Horse Water Wynd, Forfar, after Banns according to the Forms of the Church of Scotland. James was 20 years old, a bachelor, and a factory worker, residing at 26 Canmore Street, Forfar. Jane was 20 years old, a spinster, a factory yarn winder, residing at 13 Horse Water Wynd, Forfar. James's parents were Peter Ferrier, general labourer, and Elspeth Martin. Jane's parents were Frederick Thom, stone mason, and Ann Doig, linen weaver, afterwards married to James Waddel, general labourer. The minister was George J. Caie, minister of Forfar, and the witnesses were Robert Petrie and Jessie Smith. The marriage was registered on the 18th February 1878 at Forfar, Registrar W. H. Thomson.1
