He was quite a young man when he persuaded 16-year-old Margaret’s mother to let her visit him in Edinburgh where he had rooms. He was playing drums at the Palais at the time. She tells the story of deciding to come home from the Palais early and being unsure which close door was correct. But the key she had opened the door and she went up the stair and unlocked the door she had been shown earlier only to find an old man and woman in the bed! She went down stairs to the landlady’s door to ask what had happened only to find a different woman there too. Luckily that woman knew that she should be in the next close and she eventually got to her room! This George had the bakery in Perth Road (about 1940?). Margaret says he died in 1999.5
