    Hello Pat
Perhaps you will remember me and my FORD family connection ? This question is in connection with the ADAMSON branch. My 2nd cousin and I have been trying to unravel a lot of old photos etc left by her Grandmother Elizabeth FORD – my Grandmother is the sister, Isabella FORD (married Francis Wylie NEISH). Elizabeth left a number of photos and post cards etc from a James DEWAR and we wondered if he had married one of the other FORD sisters. We have had no luck finding any of the husbands of the other sisters. To-day I learnt that he did NOT marry a Ford. As the attachment shows, his wife was JOHANA MURRAY ADAMSON DEWAR. With Adamson being a middle (or her maiden name) that might be a clue – making her a Cousin to our Grandmothers? I seem to recall that you have done ADAMSON research. Might you know about a Johana ? A bit about James Dewar below.
    Best regards

I may have found him for you on Ancestry. I have found a James Thompson Dewar b 1881 and living at 17 Seymour Street Dundee and in the RGA! sounds like him!!

Here is the bit I have on JAMES DEWAR – don’t spend any time on it though (unless you have a very lazy day…)
This was located on the list from the Castle of Edinburgh as born in Dundee, James Thomson Dewar, service #163127, died (at home) May 19, 1920. Royal Garrison Artillery Gnr.
Two sons Edward and Ronnie Dewar noted on family papers.
May have been born Dundee 1872 – Died May 19,1920
As the 1891 census has him in England & Single – he might have married there after 1891 ? IF that is him.

    Hi Barbara,

Yes still tracking Ford folk at this end – but will admit to not having had time recently to investigate some of the wider family! You remember correctly about the Adamson connection – for that is my ‘own’ name ie maiden name. You will find all my folk on my website here www.genesontheweb.co.uk

Now your Johan Murray Adamson Dewar ms Edward is interesting – and I thought she might connect to some of my more far-flung Adamsons – so I tracked her family back a bit, but in fact they came from Fife, not Angus. (I’ve been trying to limit my interest to Adamson folk who have a BMD event in Angus.)

So from the marriage records that I’ve downloaded from ScotlandsPeople (attached) you can see that
Johan Murray Adamson Edward has parents David Edwards and Mary Anne Adamson (m Dundee 1875)
Mary Anne Adamson has parents Alexander Adamson and Agnes Murray (m Elie, Fife 1842)

I haven’t taken it back any further or investigated the family of any of them, but if you have access to Ancestry and/or ScotlandsPeople you might be able to put some flesh on the bones.
Thanks for thinking of me – I’m always fascinated to see how all theses folk fit together (or not!).
Hope this helps. Do keep in touch.
    Pat

    Hello Pat

I am smiling this morning. Our mystery JAMES DEWAR now solved. His wife Johan, with the maiden name of EDWARD is the answer. My 2nd cousin, Diane Macara’s Grandmother, Elizabeth FORD married Robert EDWARD. It is quite possible that Johana DEWAR, nee EDWARD is a sister to Robert. I certainly am indebted to you for taking on my mystery. Below, should it be of interest, is the FORD connection. Everything has an answer – such a pleasure when one is found. Interesting the ADAMSON connection too. I know cousin Diane will be thrilled – all credit goes to YOU.
    Hugs from Bermuda

Delighted to have been of help! Please can I add the relevant FORD bits to mine? They will end up on the web – deceased only – in due course if that’s ok.

And interesting regarding the Edward connection – did you know that a later FORD married an EDWARD too? Here he is – any connection? http://www.genesontheweb.co.uk/p171.htm
And I’ll attach his earlier marriage if its any use.

    Yes Pat
You may add the Elizabeth FORD / George EDWARD branch - eliminating any living. My Grandmother, Isabella FORD died before I was born. Diane getting into the old box left by her sister, Elizabeth FORD has given me a whole chapter I knew nothing about. Pleased the sisters visited each other often.
Lots of photos came my way. Thought you might like the one I have attached?
Thank you for the 'other' Edward/Ford marriage. I see I do have them but listed as 'Frank & Mina'- I will correct that.
You can claim Diane & I as your 4th Cousins . . .~!~ Yes, let's stay in touch.

    Barbara,

It took me a few minutes to soak in all the information. There is a good possibility that this is correct. I am just sorry we do not have the connection to Ann or Jessie. But it looks like the Dewar mystery is solved.

I will have to invest some more time and money to get the connection for Robert Edward to David Edward. Elizabeth told my Aunt that Robert's father was a horse trainer could that also be a coachman? Will look that up tonight.

Please give a big thank you to Janet and Pat from me. Thank you for your part and the hug.

    Many hugs back to you.
