The Act for making the Registration of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, imperative, came into operation on the 1st of January, 1855 , since which time other two amended Acts have been passed, agecting considerably a number of sections of the First Act. T he dates of Registration however have not been altered, and to avoid penalty must take place as follows

    Births within 21 days,
    Deaths „ 8 „
    Marriages 3 1)

The proper informants of a Birth are the Parents, and of an illegItimate Birth the Mother, but it requires the personal .attendance of both Father and Mother at the Register Office before an illegitimate child can be regis- tered by the surname of the Father.
The nearest Relative present at the Death of any person, and failing the deceased having any Relative the Occupier of the house in which the Death took place, must personally give notice of the Death to the Registrar within the above period. However by the arrangements of the respective Burying Grounds, it is necessary that Deaths be registered before interments take
    place.
Marriage Schedules may either be delivered personally to the Registrar, or sent by Post, but it is very desirable that they should be delivered per- sonally in case of being improperly or imperfectly tilled up. It is also of importance for contracting parties to bear in mind, that it is absolutely necessary for them to have the real signatures of two witnesses to the cere-
mony before it is a complete document.

For the purposes of the Act the Parliamentary Burgh of Dundee was Aivided into three Districts. A line from the Barbour along Castle Street, High Street, Reform Street, Ward Road, and the ewtyle Railway, to the extreme North divides the First from the Second District; and a line from opposite Hazel Hall along Blackness Road down by East end of Glen Agnes
